Call CMP. They are really good folks to deal with. Just tell them what's goin on and they'll make it right.

Hard to say, chances are it just needs a good cleaning. Mine had hardened Cosmo in places you couldn't get to without a complete tear down.

If you do the tilt test with the trigger group installed the bolt will hang on the hammer
I performed all tilt test with the stock removed (handguard and forearm installed).
          Bolt only: Passed
Bolt + Op rod: Failed. Cannot put a piece of printer paper between the bottom of the barrel and op rod.

I've torn down and cleaned the rifle by field stripping. I have removed the bullet guide, follower, op-rod catch, follower arm, clip latch; inspected, cleaned and lubed. I have also clean and lubed the OR and bolt. I did not tear down the bolt, trigger group, nor gas cylinder assembly. Still fails to pass tilt test and still won't load from the left.

Also, I've heard from poster above and another PM that they have trouble loading with top round to the left. Good to know it isn't only this rifle.

What is the manufacturer, approx serial number on receiver and date on barrel?

            Is it an early m1?

Investigate the GC next. The piston could be binding in there. Make sure the gas plug is secured.

SA WW2 '44 serial number with '52 barrel. OR has late war cut. Chamber is parked (as expected of a rebuild).

So here is the resolution, I sent the rifle back to CMP. And they replaced the FHG because the heat shield was dragging on the OR. It now works good.

The most amazing thing is, I had started BLO-ing the stock. The armory took the time to BLO the new FHG and sand it to match. *That* is customer service. This is why I'll never buy a Garand from anywhere else.
