Need help restoring a Chinese M1 carbine.

I have this receiver made in 1950. I have no idea what it should look like in its original form?
I figure it would have the simplest sights and no bayonet lug.
I think I need type 1 barrel parts?, repro stuff so they don't have markings on them.. Where's the best place to get these at?
I want to keep the actual working parts USGI like the barrel, bolt. etc.

Anyone have pics of a chinese m1 carbine? If you have any chinese M1 carbine parts or know of any place that does that would help to.

Here is my receiver, I got a flat bolt because it was cheaper ( do not know if it is the correct bolt though).

Well my first thought was that it is Japaneses rather than Chinese , but looking at the crest on a Howa it didn't match your picture. I know Howa used a different crest for the ones they built for Thailand.

Here is the link to the Howa description ,

I picked up one of these carbines in 2010. The link posted below is to a thread on the Wehrmacht-Awards site where we discussed the rifle. I posted several photos, hope these will assist you. If I can be any further help let me know

Here's a pic of the crest on the Howa made Thai carbine as well as a few others of the rifle. Notice the different rear sight.

You should really sell it to me.

If not that, then I would recommend building it back up into a rifle using genuine U.S. military parts - don't use any repro stuff, as it would be incorrect, much of the repro stuff is borderline crap, and it would detract from the value and collectability of the carbine.

The only non- U.S. G.I. parts I wouldn't hesitate to use would be one of those Korean red mahogany M2 stock sets if you could find a really nice looking one.

Is the repro stuff made in China?

I actually sold my custom 56 AK stamped spiker to fund this build. Original spiker FSB with no detent for muzzle nut/ no threads parts kit (early style/ real PLA version). Stamped receiver was custom made with no dimples and selector markings were custom engraved all built by mygunsnorthwest. It was pretty awesome and one off to build a reproduction version of the first model stamped 56 spiker. It was still a USA made gun though.

This on the other hand is a real chinese rifle. Kind of a reverse build of the above, mostly US parts and just the chinese receiver. lol!
I have two korea era stocks for it. Will post a pic later..

                Thanks Phil!
I found that site when I bought the receiver but there were no pics.
I would appreciate it if you could pm me the pics. I don't feel like joining another gun site.
I just bought a really nice Chinese M1907, I'll take a pic when it gets here .

There is an M1 carbine barrel on the Marketplace Trader right now for $40. It has been shortened by 2 inches, but if it is a G.I. barrel it would be worth picking up, getting a junk barrel with a ruined bore, and using the end of the junk barrel to make a sleeve to bring the length of the cut barrel back up to 16 inches and also thus retain the original slot and milling for the front sight and it's retaining pin.

Considering that decent original barrels go for a few hundred dollars and ones without import marks are pretty scarce, this would help get your China carbine up and shooting - and if a nice original barrel came your way later at a fair price, you could always pick it up and replace this barrel.

If anyone is interested, have a nice WW2 2-rivet, shallow groove, P-U (Underwood) marked, M1 carbine handguard with the steel tab held on by 2 nails that came off one of the M1 carbines imported from China in the mid-1980's that I would sell for $25 + shipping. It's probably as close to an original Chinese made handguard as you are ever going to find.

The Chinese modified AK bayonets to work on their M1 carbines by sleeving the muzzle ring, and modifying the catch and slot in the handle. It would be fairly easy to duplicate one of these bayonets using one of the Chinese bayonets imported back in the 1980's.

Awesome find. I have a US aid provided ROC Chinese M1, with nationalist markings on the metal, and have seen pictures of a chinese made M1 which had the reverse swastika buddhist symbol from the arsenal. Seems like yours is PRC made. where did you find it?

Got the receiver on gunbroker last year. There was two but the other one was pitted. I kinda want a german mauser with the nationalist sun or a chinese garand to.

Here's the complete stock. On the underside it seems to be cleaned and the original orange color shows.

I bought a really nice USGI Marlin barrel for it earlier this year but UPS lost it. The company I bought it from refunded my money though. It's a shame because it was a REALLY nice barrel.
