LC '61 30-06 Match

Gents,

I picked up about 400 rounds of 30-06 labeled Lake City Match 1961 for $0.50 a round from an estate sale. I want to confirm that this is safe to fire out of my M1's. It seemed like a good deal, but I just wanted to check in with you guys. Also is this legit Lake City match? The box labels seem almost cartoonish.

I would get an adjustable gas block for your m1 garand.

I would check the OAL of the cartridge.....I reload standard LC brass for my Garand, and in the last "mixed bag" of military brass I bought, there were some with "match" headstamps. These casings were somewhat longer than the other casings, and I didn't want to risk anything so I chucked them in the scrap pile.
Any reloading manual should give you an acceptable mininmum and maximum OAL for the '06 round. If they are within spec, I would think that you are probably fine. I am, by far, NOT an expert though. Someone here will chime in.

Good to reload too the primers aren't crimped on the match ammo. You don't need an adjustable gas plug for that ammo.

Ya, my buddy has bunch of the LC .308 match that he got a long time ago, i think 68 stamped

I intend to pick up every piece and reload it. I picked up some 1960's LC brass (not match), and I am waiting for my bench to break trying to resize that brass. Even using imperial sizing wax, they are tough to re-size.

I am assuming that the match brass might be easier to resize?

It seems to be with the .308 but I've never used the .30-06 stuff. Lake City milsurp is pretty thick, so I'd think that it would be. Check your dies, though because it shouldn't be ridiculously hard. You're not using x-dies by chance, are you?
