the writing in yellow is the number 23.the two looks like a backwards seven and the three with a tail is the three.
I guessed they were numbers because there's only two of them and I looked up Arabic Numbers in Wikipedia... there was your answer.

All I know is that hakim's are unique and interesting rifles. And you want to keep your fingers out of the bolt or you will loose a digit.

Anyhoot, the English on the one might just be something the importer stamped on there. It could be a post-68 import or the rifle was brought in before and the importer realized that most American buyers can't read Arabic and they thought it wise to stamp some of the specs on it in English.

Oh, sorry; I am getting my "E" countries mixed up - that would have been Ethiopa. Never mind.

But good advice all the same! I cleaned one already - no sand, but the rougher one looks like a candidate for having souvenirs from the pyramids, to get de-sanded this week.

I agree with one exception; Arabic is read from right to left, so then it wouldn't it be 32?

I thought the same, but when I looked it up I didn't scroll to the bottom of the Wikipedia page to see the numbers section toward the bottom - since I couldn't find a match, I assumed they would simply have used English numerals if that was what they meant; I've seen that more often in countries that speak/write Arabic.

I agree and good catch on the right two left reading of the numbers.
it's funny because not too long ago I was at my favorite home based FFL gun dealer,
" San Jose gun trader "
(a vendor here on Calguns)
and he had some retired
ex- law enforcement Remington 870 pump shotguns ( at an amazingly low price) that were marked in the same two digit format, in the same location. I believe his we're marked both in red and some in white color.
all around the world people find it easier to track firearms by those painted numbers than to use the serial numbers.

personally I think it made those shotguns look so much better/tougher and the same goes for your Hakim.

Not sure why the other one doesn't have any markings. Mine has the same english writing as yours. There is a CAI import mark on mine on the bottom of the barrel between the stock and the muzzle break. It's hard to see on mine.
