The Yugo M24/52C, the full rifle pictured above is a re worked VZ24.

The M48 is a Yugoslavian built intermediate length large ring
Mauser. The action is 1/4" shorter than the full K98 length VZ 24 action.

That shouldn't make nany difference with a short cartridge like the .308. It is just a little harder to find a good stock for the intermediate Mausers.

Thanks, Trap. I've always wondered about the Richard's microfit stocks. Have you had any experience with them?

It came without the bolt internals and the bottom of the action. I'll pick up what I can from Numerich and probably use a Bold or Timney trigger.

Mustang, Richards makes good stuff, but when you're good, back orders and turn around time start to be a problem. Best bet is to call and see what's in stock, same with Boyds. Boyds was making a nice laminate thumb hole heavy bbl varmint stock for the M48 action because the demand got heavy. Call and check with Dorothy or Randy. Scroll to the page bottom:

That barrel isn't a cheap one, my guess Pac-Nor or Lilja. Need to determine the twist for the best load, should be a tack driver. 8 groove is a special order item. The only con I've heard on the 8 groove barrels is they tend to foul a little sooner. Never been in my price range, so I can't say from experience.
Firing pins for the M48 are near impossible to find, most replacements are being made from 98 FP's. If you need one made, I can hook you up, shoot me a PM. I want to see the range report on this one!

Looks like a nice purchase. I would have bought it too!

The "W" letter is common to M 48 rifles, I have a couple with that letter . There is no doubt that the barrel is a replacement, but I would have it checked by a good gun smith as to caliber then if you think it worth while I would stock it and put a scope on it and enjoy shooting it.

                      Thanks, guys.

I intend to get this shooting. There is no question that this is a .308 caliber rifle now and I have high hopes for the accuracy. I've checked the headspace and the bolt will not close on a field gauge.
