    DGFM Argentine Mauser

I've always had a thing for Argentine Maus...ah hell...who am I kidding, let's face it, I've always had a thing for almost any vintage military rifle.

This last weekend I glommed four new Mausers and a Mauser action with a fluted stainless bull barrel of unknown caliber at an auction. The complete rifles were a Yugo 24/52C, a Persian 98/29, a Swedish M38, and this '09 Argentine cavalry carbine.

I've got a number of '09's, most in a little better condition than this one, but this is the only DGFM Argentine-made Mauser that I have.

Metal doesn't look too bad, wood is a little rough. But that seems to be par for the course with the DGFM mausers

You got more cool military vintage rifles than anyone I know put together.

Now you need one of those DGFM (FMAP) Argentine "Sistema Colt" 1911a1 pistols to go with it.

That is a seriously cool crest on the receiver. Nice score.

Very nice! Another tale from the golden days of C&Rs: As a teenager in Pittsburgh I visited a gun shop that had what seemed to be a hundred 1909 carbines lined up against a wall and buyers could pick whichever one caught his fancy. I think I went through all hundred at least twice until I found the one I liked. I also bought a metal box of 500 7.65 Argentine ball, round nose on 5 round clips. My buddy did the same and we'd take them to a railroad bridge over a river and fire into the mud river bank to watch the mud fly from the round nose bullets. Great fun! When the ammo was gone I traded the carbine. Another one I wish I had kept.

SMLE...just don't tell me what you paid for that carbine...

I always get into my hobbies long after their golden age has passed. One of my buddies is always talking about how cheap foreign (and American!) surplus rifles were back in the day. And I've seen the adds from back then and know that he speaks the truth.

                      Cool,

I have a DGFM (FMAP) 1911 that has been a reliable workhorse for over 30 years.

I had a DGFM Cavalry Carbine. It looked very similar to yours, matching with beautiful crest. Sadly, I needed money a couple years ago and had to sell it. Still have the awesome sword bayonet though!

                          Thanks, guys.

The funny thing is, these were probably the most expensive Mausers ever built. The Argentines built a factory in the 1940's to build them and then built about 20,000 of them, before ending production after realizing that the future of military rifles was not the bolt action.

I probably paid about $60 but back then that was the equivalent of $300 or more today. Military ball was .10 a round but that is .55 per round today. Until the recent panic buying that was about the going rate. Things haven't changed much in 40 some years.

The rifles from my latest on line auction haul arrived at my FFL today. I got a chance to look them over before they went into the safe for the 10 day waiting period.

The DGFM carbine looks decent. The bore is good, the wood is not bad, but very dark. The metal finish is good, but the action, which is correct "in the white" has a kind of dull finish on it.

Better pics when they get out of jail.
