    8mm Mauser Persian surplus

Anyone with input on these rounds, a friend in LV, NV is trying to unload quite a few bags of these rounds but if I remember correctly these are the most problematic surplus rounds?

They have a bad reputation, but I shot a few out of my M24 and didn't have any FTF or delays. I only had about 20 rounds so maybe I was just lucky and got some that had been properly stored.

Just noticed JG is selling them also in bags and the reviews say the same.

Im not short on 8mm just wanted to have extra rounds for my next trip out to shoot w/ friends at the end of the month.

Not sure if the Persian is the worse. I have a 1260 round spam can of the Yugo surplus on strippers, looks great, clean, etc. but only about 3 out of 5 rounds will detonate on my Turkish Mauser. But I think that is more of a case of an issue with my Turkish Mauser than the ammo itself. I may pick up a 24/47 to see if a newer rifle with a stronger, longer protrusion firing pin is better with this ammo.

Have heard really mixed things about the Persian ammo. Don't you reload? I just scored some nice new Prvi 8mm brass.

I wish I had the time to reload but my job keeps me busy for atleast 20 days out of the month. The time off is for family.

As soon as I get back to TX I plan on learning the art and skill of reloading.

As far as the Persian, proceed at your own risk from what I have heard. Decent percentage of duds.

Plus the price just increased on them by at least 10% this month.

The bolt on your rifle may be full of old dry grease which is cushioning the firing pin strike. Clean it out and try it again. If you don't want the Yugo ammo I'll buy it from you if it is a decent price.

i had same problem with 50's yugo surplus - easy solution - change to stronger firng pin spring - pretty simple - video how-tos on youtube - as to persian 8mm, someone gave me some and at least 50% are comlete duds even with strong firing pin springs in all my mausers - avoid persian - maybe turkish is the only good stuff left

I bought a bag of the Persian from J&G to try out in a K98k, and so far all have fired (40 left). About 10-15% are hang fires, but what do you expect from ammo that old, plus it's good partice for maintaining control of your rifle. I have noticed that if that ammo is warm (sit in sun til warm), it has less hang fire lag time.
An err on the side of caution, is still an err. - me

I bought a 1,000 case of the persian stuff. So far 3 out of 5 have a very scary and long hang fire. A couple of times I was about to bring my rifle down from my shoulder when they went off. Next time I go to the desert I'm gonna try to "cook it" in the sun before I shoot it.

                            I will check that out.

Sell ammo in California? No way, I will either get the Turk to be able to shoot it or will buy a 24/47. This ammo looks great.
