    Sporter Mauser

Hey I have an opportunity to snatch a 1893 Mauser. My question is 1. isnt 1893 not a regulated gun or is that just a model? 2. if it is a regulated gun does it no longer become a C&R if it has been changed into a sporter? thanks

Anything pre 1898 is an antique and I believe is "unregulated". Probably just the model, Spanish Mauser.

If it is made before 1898, it can look like something from Star Wars and still will be antique and "unregulated".

1893 is the year that model was designed. To be antique, the actual date of manufacture of that particular rifle needs to be 1898 or earlier. Might need more info.

Does the side of the reciever say Ludwig Loewe or the Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken?

Ok so I definitely thing that 1893 is a model. What about it affecting C&R status? Also forgot to ask if 95 bucks is a good deal.

FIRST tell us whether the reciever says Loewe or DWM. That will tell us if its an antque or C&R.

                  Nevermind. Sorry.

                  Oviedo Arsenal. 1916?

Well if it was sportered before 1968 then it is C&R.

If it is a shooter with a good bore, $96 is fair

The seller listed it in fair condition and said the gun was a little rough. I dont care about the looks on the outside. I just dont want a pitted bore.

If it is local FTF it is worth a look -- take a bore scope --
If it is by mail with shipping and transfer fees, it might not be worth the chance.
