    Mauser Question?

Found this 1874 Mauser on CL of all places. Is the rifle authentic? and how much would one of these be worth?

    Thanks

    What is an 1874 Mauser?

It looks like an model 1871 (single shot). From the pictures, I can't tell if it has a tubular magazine. The one with the tubular magazine is Gewehr 71/84.

It is an 1871, but made in 1874, so third year of production.

I don't see too much brass, so it is likely a 1884 refurb. Hence, 71/84.

Doesn't look to be in bad shape.

I am not familiar with the older Mausers, so thanks for any input. I also realize that the rifle is possibly marked wrong like the 1874....hence the question about it. Thanks for any input

It's a straight up 1871 Mauser, and in pretty good shape. Not to many original 1871's around. If it's matching it could be worth around $500 or so...

I agree with SVT-40, it is a plain vanilla m71 mauser single shot made in 1874
The 71/84 is a separate model, a repeater with a tubular magazine and not converted from 71's.
The correct cartridge is 11mm mauser sometimes called 43 mauser similar in size to a 45/70.
They can be fun shooters, but new brass is rather dear.
The cartridge is hard to make from other brass as it has a mauser "A" base.
At one time many moons ago dominion cart co. in canada made ammo for them.
