I'm hoping to clear up a question about my Mosin Nagant. It's a 1942 izzy 91/30 and shoots great. All the s/n's match except the bolt. The number on the bolt is 09. The just seems odd to me. Could it be s/n 09, or would the number indicate something else? It's the only number on the bolt, and is on the side, just forward of the bolt handle. The serial numbers on the rest of the rifle are 4 digits. That seems a little odd to me also, considering how many of these were likely made in 1942. I'm mainly just curious about the number on the bolt. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Question about Mosin Nagant bolt s/n

I've noticed on some of my guns (not mosins but others so I don't know if this applies) that the complete serial number will only appear on the receiver and then the individual parts will have the last few digits of that number.
Maybe the bolt is from a rifle that originally has a serial number of XX09?NRA-ILA Lawmaker Contact Tool

That number 9 might be a proof mark and your bolt would be considered "unnumbered"

No mystery here - your bolt is simply mismatched and came from another rifle. Where and when the rifle ended up with this mismatched bolt no one will ever know. What the serial number was on the rifle the bolt came from, we will also never know, except that it was either 09, or ended with 09.Comment
