Have not tried commercial ammo with it though.

Unfortunately the Garand Gear plug is out of stock at the moment, and at the match yesterday I was told that some of the gas plug modifications are not allowed for some of the matches? Being a brand new Garand owner I have to read up on that, as I wouldn't want to become dependant on a modified plug and have to change up the plug and ammo for a match.

The only real problem with the CMP stock is that it takes a very long time to process the orders, and if you don't have any munchies for the M1 in hand it will be quite the wait before you can feed it again!

The gas cylinder lock screw (gas plug) is the size of a thimble and as about as much trouble to change as a toothpaste cap.

      You don't have a problem.

That's to bad that Garand Gear is out of stock on the "gas plug". I have one on my Garand and have fed my boy several commercial grade ammo and have not had any issues. I also have inspected my op-rod and other parts and have found that all is still the way it is supposed to be. Now I'm in the process of reloading and will be using IMR4895 and 150gr HPBT to 168gr HPBT. I would think there will be a better change when it comes to accuracy with the Wilson Arms NM barrel I have compared to mil-surp ammo.

According to the charts, Lake City went to non-corrosive primers in June 1951 (for M-2 Ball). So, if its M-2 you should be ok

Not difficult, but your zero may change.

Any removal of the gas plug will open the possibility for a zero shift.

I've had the gas plug out of mine, so I understand how simple it would be to swap. However, I understand that some matches require original "as-issued" configuration. Loads would thus need to be at standard M1 pressures, and would perform differently with the replacement as opposed to the original.

So, if one is to go to those matches and or others, they should be dialed in. If not, there loss and perhaps they will learn from not being prepared.
