    US Model 1873 value

    Hello,
I have a US Model 1873, Carbine, Serial # 340XXX (1887?) that my folks picked up in the 60's and wonder if it has any value. The stock has a couple of cracks, 4 previous owners have carved their initials in the stock, firing pin in trapdoor in rusted but might work if worked on. Thanks for your help.

The carbines are generally worth more than the standard infantry rifle.
I'm not aware if value has changed recently, but the infantry model as of a few years ago sold for between $700 and about $1400 depending on condition. Carbine would probably add a couple hundred to those prices.

is it a real Saddle Ring Carbine? Almost all the carbines for sale i have seen are cut down Rifles, easy to spot as they almost never fill up the cleaning rod groove in the stock.Does it have the buttplate with trapdoor and holes for a three piece ramrod.? That was put in after Custer died with 256 of his men because copper 45-70's shells stuck in the bore when long periods of firing heated up the carbine and there was no way to force the shells out.

          Thanks everyone for your input.

No hole for cleaning rod, solid buttplate and no saddle ring.
