No Love for the USI Matches?

I see that there is a Garand match in the morning, followed by a military rifle match... I can't find any postings here though, and was surprised that I didn't see anyone talking them up.

Pretty late now, but anyone going? Any reason they're not getting any love here? Anything I should know about them?

I'm planning to go and check them out... not sure if I'm going to shoot or just watch at this point. We'll see how it feels when I get there.

Thanks in advance for the info!

I will be there for the Garand Match at 0830 and I will also do the Military Arms Match with a K31. I was the one that created the Military Arms Match back about 10 years ago after Fred Davis passed the torch down to me as M1 Garand chairman. Several years later I passed it down to Greg Ong. Two real good guys. Funny thing, the three of us are Marine Corps vets. I'll be wearing a black USMC ball cap. See ya at the range.

This match must not be around my neck of the woods (Sac Valley Range) otherwise I will shake the hornet's nest and send out a special invite to Josh Smith and backstrap with their sub MOA $90 Big 5 Mosin to the match. I will also invite all other Mosin, AK and SKS "50 yard snipers" (Frank's word) to the match and this seems to do the trick.

Someone should post a thread on this forum to let fellow shooters know there is a match. I and a few others might drive a little further and shoot the match if we knew about it.

The match is held at USI in Concord off Evora Rd. in the multi purpose range.
I stopped in today and looked over some of the equipment being used because I plan on shooting the next one they host. A real good group of guys and very helpfull too. Look under Diablo Rod & gun Clubs websight under "activities". Hope to see you there!

FYI guys, there was a small turn out for the Mil-Arms Match. We had only 4 good riflemen. I was ready to shoot my K31 when Bob (who was running the M1 Garand match) ask me if I would run todays Mil-Arms Match so he could shoot. So, being a good sport I did. The Garand Match had a good turn out. There is usually more folks participating but, its the Easter weekend and well you know, family comes first. At this Match there are no "prizes" like some other ranges have. When I ran it there was medals I handed out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Why that is no longer happening is beyond me. All in all there are a bunch of good folks that shoot there and are always willing to assist those first timers and then some. Check the web site out and I hope some of you shooters can make it out.

I agree it should have been posted on the C&R forum for better exposure. I wish I knew about it as I would have shot the match. Next month there is a match three weekends in a row. The 6th is in Modesto, 14th 3x600 Sac Valley and the 20th Silhouette also at Sac Valley.

I'll try to do that for future matches. I'd like to do my part to help generate interest and grow the matches, as it is a great facility and a good group.

I had a chance to get out there today, and I observed the Garand match and the attempted to shoot the military rifle match for the first time with my K-31 without a diopter. This was my first attempt at two of the positions, and none were comfortable for me. I found it extremely challenging supporting the rifle with only my body and, when permissible, the sling. I have a lot to learn.

This match is quite different than the matches I've been to at Sac Valley, in numerous ways. I found the challenges compelling, and have an appreciation for those who participated.

I look forward to the next time. It was a pleasure meeting the folks who came out today.

                Have a happy Easter everyone!

I'd love to go to one of these matches. I'm a newbie with a Garand and K31. Would like to learn from the experts who shoot them. Keep us posted when the matches are at the USI range in Concord.
