Gift from my Dad. Colt 1903

I only know as much as i found on wiki about this gun. based of the SN it was made in 1919. i remember shooting this once when i was a kid and never seen it again till now. it was kept in a proper case and it shows. i plan on keeping this but not sure if i should leave it as is or get it refinished. i do want to shoot it but ill have to wait till i can find some 32acp if they even make them anymore
any advice or tips be greatly appreciated.

on to the good stuff i guess

Don't do that. Clean it, oil it and enjoy it like it is. Cool gun.

Very nice! I don't think you should refinish it at all. Yes, it is in rough shape, but you will greatly harm the collector's value. .32 is a cool round. I have fired a Savage 1917, and yes they still make the round. If its safe to shoot, find some ammo and hit the range!!!

She's yours to do with what you want, but I wouldn't refinish her. I love mine.

They have a real cult following and seem to be a popular back-pocket piece for off-duty and retired LE in my area. So flat, so familiar.

        Enjoy!

I can get .32 ACP at walmart, it's still widely produced.

I wouldn't refinish it, but I would stop any active rust (if there is any).

If you refinish it, it would be for your own appreciation, as it will not increase the value. I would just clean it up good, being careful to not do any harm. Then it will have all it's character. 32acp is easy to get. And 1903 Colts can digest anything, as long as you have the original magazine. Enjoy, it is a great gun.

I purchased one built in 1914 and it had been in a fire or something based on the appearance. zero finish on it and all gummed up on the inside like it had been baked. I did re finish it. I polished all the dings and de burred then bead blasted and parkerized it. I found a nice set of grips for it and a new spring kit from Wolf. It came out realy nice and shoots well. I Have another one that is just fine the way it is.Whatever you do it is a nice little point and shoot gun. Very cool like a mini 1911.

Thankfully the guy I bought it from showed me how to break it down. Very cool the way they are put together. Some models have integrated bushing while some have a separate barrel bushing like a 1911. Do yourself a favor and buy a 1903 with a good barrel. Finding a good replacement is not easy.

Very cool, I've got one in .380acp, fun little shooter. Finish is rather worn on mine, originally blued. Hard to tell from the pics, but what finish is yours?

Not entirely the same thing but I own an Ortgies in .32 and always though that it was inspired by the little Colt.

Very cool gift. Clean it and shoot it -- the 1903 is a neat little pistol.
