If you scratch your stock, don't panic, here's how to restore it - Lessons Learned

I'm pissed as hell. My fault that I was rushing it and shoving the 91/30 pu in my collection. Anyone know how I can fix this scratch and maintain the color of the wood? A band aid fix recommendation would work

It looks like some of the wood and DEFINITELY the clear coat was scratched off.

If it is a shellac finish, take a tiny amount of denatured alcohol and try to dissolve then move some of the shellac from the surrounding areas over the scratch.

that is a nice laminate stock. I am sorry.

        A Russian band aid fix?

Shoe polish or a brown crayon.

Find the right color clear coat and apply with a nail polosh brush carefully without much overlap with current coat.

The amber shellac is from hardware stores is close, but not real shellac. The shellac the soviets used were actual shellac flakes (there is a place in Napa that sells them) dissolved in high quality denatured alcohol. Then slopped on the rifle.

Use denatured alcohol is dissolve and liquify some of the shellac already on your rifle. once liquified using a tiny brush spread it over the scratch. This is the only way to get a perfect match. I used this technique with great success on a Chinese type 53. If there is interest I can post before\after photos.

My prediction is that from this point on, you're going to get upset each time you look at the "suspect" and the scar on the SKS. The solution is...out of sight, out of mind. Either get rid off the "suspect" or the scar. Let's approach the scar.

Wanna make a tiny, like real tiny, profit on the SKS?

nice PU, i have a big 5 replica that is a nice shooter but i want the real deal so bad. if somebody would sell them retail i would buy one. i have no self control and a C&R would just ruin me.

Actually the solution is the mn will be grounded for a month and belted like how our parents belted us.

Below is the victim before it got scratched. This baby will stay with me and his wound will heal
