A Yugo sks in Ca. is not c&r. It is less than 50 years old. It would have to go to a 01 ffl to be done correct. The grenade launcher removed would solve the DD problem, but it is still not C&R'able in Ca.

To buy one using a 03, you would need to physically leave the state and purchase. Then bring it back.

They are listed - I was told C&R was C&R -even in cali 50 years old was only need for FTF transfers

Yugo M59 and M59/66 rifles are C&R in California.

But under California law, to avoid having to go through a California Dealer/DROS a firearm has to meet three criteria...

          1) Must be C&R
          2) Must be a long gun
          3) Must be at least 50 years old

The Yugo's only meet requirements 1 and 2, so they still have to be transfered though a California Dealer if they are being shipped into the State. If a Licensed Collector travels out of state then he isn't subject to the California restrictions and he can buy C&R long guns and handguns of any age.

I haven't lived there for a couple of years, but IIRC, it doesn't have to be 50 years old if it's on the BATF's list of C&R.

I remember (and this was two years ago) that I couldn't buy a M-29 Smith or a Thompson Contender because neither was on the drop list.

Yet, I could buy the "Elmer Keith" M-29 and the "Steve Herrett" Thompson, cause they were on the BATF C&R list.

Old Sacramento Armory had the Herrett Contender and San Jose guns had the Keith M-29. And neither of those guns were anywhere near 50 years old.

You are right about that, BUT..................

You can not get them shipped to you directly, even though you have a c&r . You would need to bring them in through an 01 dealer, or physically leave the state with your 03, purchase, bring back, and then register them with Ca.

Being ATF C&R means that "handgun roster" does not apply.

                    More C&R Transfer questions.

Since were on a C&R transfer question...If I have an 03 FFL, can I purchase a C&R rifle and have it shipped to me even though the other out of state party does not have a FFL? I originally thought that C&Rs could only be sold between FFL holders (FFL 01s, 02s, 03s, 07s). Any help appreciated.

I posted this in another recent thread dealing with a similar issue.
