Where have all the nagant revolvers gone?

Title says it all. Of course i didnt buy any when they were available for $100. Now that i want to buy a couple to go with my 91/30's they are as plentiful as .19 cent .223 ammo!!! Whats your take on if and when JG or Aim will have'em?
    They gave, so we have.

Maybe they will get more in, but not in the numbers or low prices they used to have them.

I, too, waited too long to get one online. Got very lucky on one of the Ventura Gun shows and picked a very nice one (no obnoxious import marks) 1944 Tula for almost the same price (came to around $140 with fees, etc.)

Others i saw there were at least twice as expensive and half as nice.
Wouldn't mind getting another one if they pop up online again.

Question: I have read that some of these were single action and some were double. Is that true?
Or are the ones in the American market all double action?

Yes some were double action and some were single. The Imperial and early Soviet models were single action, but they were later changed to double. Ones like the OP's are nearly end production and are double.

That is a sweet looking revolver, that Tula star just makes it that much more so. Did Izhevsk also make the Nagant revolvers?

                  Yes, but 42-45 only IIRC.

These things are ... not nearly as cool as people expect them to be. I had a very nice Tula model. It was ridiculously hard to find ammunition for - even when cheap ammo was available - and further, it had the worst trigger of any gun I've ever fired. Double action pull was like 35 lbs or something ridiculous, and even the single action pull felt like the gun was full of grit, no matter how clean it was.

You gotta have a strong finger to blast off a full cylinder from this. Seriously. I think that finger exercises must have been part of what they did to build up the New Soviet Man or something, right along with the seats on Aeroflot.

Well of course they made the double action hard. They did it along the same lines of reasoning that the US and Great Britain used to put magazine cut-offs on our 1903 Springfields and Lee-Enfield, respectively. They did not want soldiers to fire as many rounds as possible. The objective of the day was to conserve ammunition and aim at your targets. Limiting the speed of fire on the weapons helped to achieve this.

Also, what makes you think ammo is hard to find? There is plenty of commercial stuff by PPU. It never even dried up during the Panic. Only twenty-four dollars a box too.

I don't think ammo conservation was the goal with the difficult DA trigger pull, it's simple physics. When the trigger is pulled, the cylinder moves forward under spring tension to seal off the head space...so you're moving a lot of hardware on DA.

Ammo conservation was done by issuing ncos single action revolvers!
