Looks like the mini ball I shoot in my Zouave.
I would really like a piece of history like those, someday I plan on a visit there, we did do Vicksburg a few years back.

Luckily they look like they didn't hit anything. Those rounds were fired back when men were men. These are very very cool.
I've always wanted to get a minie ball as a collector piece

I picked up a couple of them in Columbia SC about 10 years ago. I still have one in my office desk drawer. Nice example in your picture!

How much do the run nowadays? IIRC in the early 90's they were a dollar each; I collected them as a kid.
Those and dug Roman coins are on my list of things to get for my shadowbox.

Awesome! Now that's some old school projectiles right there. They are in pretty good shape as well.

Pretty cool piece of history to have out on display in your home.

That's awesome. I have a metal detector, and have been salivating for awhile now, over some long forgotten European battlefields. Now if I could just convince my wife to spend thousands in airfare for my nerdy hobby......
Ok sorry, threadjack over. Very nice minnie ball.

I have a couple I got at Gettysburg. More than likely they were not fired and probably the cartridge was dropped and the paper and powder have fallen apart over the years. I noticed the minie ball has no rifling marks on it showing that it was not fired.

The guy who have me the ball had a basement full of civil war finds. Stirrups, belt buckles, sashes, buttons, watches, bayonets, gun parts, etc. it was like a museum.

I think the idea of going to Europe sounds good but I'd check the property laws first, or learn how to say, "can I sweep your yard and split the spoils with you?" In 3 different languages.

Or go out to the desert and find some gold.

If you got to Chalons in France you can sweep the fields near the river there and you cans still find the arms and armor of the Goths, Huns and Romans who died there in one of antiquity's bloodiest battles.

Whether you can keep it is a different matter.

A friend of mine has a WW1 German helmet that he picked up in Verdun in the early 60s from a collapsed dugout. It is about a third rusted away. Until the 90s German gear and weapons could be found pretty easily around Leningrand and Stalingrad. There was a thriving market of Soviet citizens selling German dogtags back to the surviving relatives in Germany. A good story about his can be found in the book "Aftermath"

Considering how many poor bastards lost their lives in those battles, I can totally believe that.
