Does anyone have one of these? How to they compare to the SKS. Seems to me they are very similar to SKS and have been rechambered for 7.62x39 (a plus ammo wise). Not listed on AW list, doesn't have a PG, and its a C&R. What am I like to pay for this rifle? Opinions?

Czech Vz52/57

The VZ52 was an original czech weapon designed for the 7.62x45. The story goes the Soviets required the caliber conversion to 7.62x39. Some VZ52s were rechambered into 7.62x39. In 1957, the rifles were switched to 7.62x39, and renamed the VZ52/57. The were replaced by the VZ58.
Actual 52/57s (not rechambered VZ52s) usually sell for over $500 and parts are hard to come by and expensive for a C&R. There was one on gunbroker a while back that made it to $700 but didn't meet reserve. VZ52s are a lot cheaper.
With that said, yes I have one. They are *for the most part* more accurate and reliable than an SKS. They eject brass to the left. Garand type trigger group. Good luck finding one. If you are fortunate enough to find actual 7.62x39 mags, be prepared to pay $50 each.

I have a Vz52, but have yet to shoot it due to lack of ammo. I bought a set of custom made Lee dies for reloading, but they are still being made.
There is a Vz52 at City Arms and has been there forever, but has a "Not for sale" tag on it. Not sure why it's on display. There used to be an adapter for converting a 52 to 52/57 but everyone that I've heard from says that it's unreliable and eventually gets extracted with a random case. If you find a Vz52 with an awful black bedliner covered stock, you can replace it with a M14 wooden stock and a little bit of woodwork. Spare 52 mags are sold by some surplus company in Modesto, but can't recall the name off hand. They might have other spare parts too.Comment

There was some Vz-52 RIFLE ammo for sale here not too long ago....
A good source tells me it's still available. PM me if interested. I'm in LA/Burbank area. Yes, I do own a Vz-52 Rifle and it is mighty pretty. Looks new. But it's not for sale.

I owned an actual 52/57 awhile back- my uncle ended up buying it from me
It's a pretty neat rifle- I would give the SKS the nod in reliability just because it's a simpler design, but the CZ is fun- and it has that 'planet of the apes' look
Parts are expensive, mags are expensive, but the 52/57 uses regular 7.62x39 ammo properly. Buy one if you can find it- they hodl their value, and then some! Expect to pay $550 to $700 for one now.
Another nice companion piece is the Rashid (Rasheed) rifle, also in 7.62x39.

Here is a collage of photos of my Vz 52/57. It's all matching and unfired.
