    Need Opion on M1 garand

I just pick up a M1, it needs a new barrel, My question is should I buy a new Criterion one or get a used GI SA one from gunbroker. My M1 is a 140xxx from 1941, all parts are SA so I was told. Just want to see what everyone thinks.
I will be using it has a shooter. Thanks

Get a new Criterion. The new commercially made barrels will be much higher quality than the USGI made barrels. If you can, order one from the CMP, and save a few bucks.

If you have dealer accounts with either midway usa or brownells, check and see if they have criterion barrels, which I believe I did see on one of their sites, and it was cheaper (and it'll ship faster) than CMP.

By the way, how do you know it needs a new barrel? Just wondering... I've got two HRA service grades on order from CMP myself.

        That's a fact.

Both. Have it rebarreled with the criterion, and find a NOS SA one so that you have a NOS USGI barrel for collector value later. They aren't making any more USGI barrels...

I have installed many, many Criterions. Have yet to run accross a funky one. Thread timing, spline fits, power diameters, you name it, they fit. Not so with many other aftermarket barrels for the M1.

By the way Kendog, that barrel (Wilson Arms) in which you installed for me last year is working out really good. Thanks again for such fast and professional service of your gifted expertise when it comes to M1 Garands.
