When you look at the amount of C&R stuff vs. all the other guns/parts/accessoried, it shouldn't be too hard to moderate and control a C&R Trader Forum.

As Emcon mentioned, certain controls and rules would help. None of this excessive bumping - I see ads on the regular traders that are 10 pages long with several hundred useless and unnecessary "bumps" because the guy whose ad it is doesn't have the common sense and minimal intelligence to delete his "bump" from yesterday when he posts another today...and this goes on for months and years.

Also, un-necessary comments and replies could be eliminated. If you want the item or want more information, PM or email the seller.

The trader forums at Culver's Shooting Page are run this way - you can't reply to them or bump them, only modify them, delete them, or make a new posting. When you sell your item, you delete it.

Of course, allowing limited "bumping" (say once a week, every 3 days, whatever the volume and use of the forum dictates) might be a good idea, so the stuff that is current and available remains accessable and the things people post and then wander off and forget about, or sell and don't remove the listing, aren't taking up space that would be better suited for items that are actually currently for sale and being watched and managed by their owners.

This is something I don't agree with. It is nice to look at old postings and see what stuff has sold for, both as a buyer (to know what to ask for something) and as a seller (to know what is/was a fair price).

When it is sold, edit the title and first post to say so, but leave the rest of it alone.

Now's the time to do it. C&R is going to get more and more interest until January 2014. Of course the interest will still be there, but the ease of acquisition will be greatly deminished.

Every time I've seen this suggested in the past, the argument against is always the "slippery slope" BS- the shotgun guys will want a FS forum, and then the "Nor Cal - SoCal" divisionists will speak up (I'm one of them) and it will all go to heck in a hand basket.

I do agree with getting our own FS forum, but it sure hasn't gotten any traction in the past :/

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Well if there cant be a sub forum perhaps we all put a certain letter string in every c&r for sale add. Ie if i am selling a mosin or a lebel i put "4c&rsearch" somewhere in the description. That way anyone looking for c&rs in the for sale forum can just search that text string. If we all do it we will in essence create a searchable sub forum.

Frankly, that is a good idea. With the traffic and "bumps" in there, the Private sale forum is for all practical purposes unusable Finding something you are looking for is difficult, and just browsing is impossible, especially with crappy descriptions in some of the posts. When I posted in the "suggestions" forum yesterday, the first page only covered about 40 minutes. There was 14 pages of posts in the previous 24 hours.

It should be broken up into groups:

                          Handguns
                          semi-auto rifles
                          bolt action and other rifles
                          shotguns.

The problem then would be an admin would need to sort through the existing forum and move stuff to where it would belong, which I admit would be a nightmare.

If they did this, the C&R trader might not be necessary, although as a sub group with links to posts in the actual trader it would be nice.

Then again, using that method, a sticky thread for links to C&R stuff would work too. You got something to sell, bump the thread and list it.

The problem is the intelligence level of the average user seems to be pretty low... I base this observation on the massive number of for sale ads that include the words *REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING*

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I'd be down. As for moderation, just give one of the C&R forum regulars mod power only in the C&R trader subforum.
