My advice: His old man left him those guns for a reason. Talk him in to keeping them...once they're gone he won't get them back.

If your going to buy it, do it before the end of the year when the laws change on C&R's.
It sounds like a C&C but like Crusader said, try to talk some sense into the guy. He will regret it later on. -g

It's C&R and worth some $ to the right collector.
Sell it and say good bye forever.
Chance of ever replacing it... SLIM to...

The 144US, if indeed that's what it is, is worth quite a bit. Mags aren't the problem. But the fact that it seems to be complete, makes it uncommon.

Didn't the contract for 144US run into the 60s? Are you positive it was made prior to 1963?

According to Batha's book, 1949-1960. Used till the '80's.

If its an actual US PROPERTY training rifle then it will have a serial number on top of the barrel. Just look up the serial number and see when it was made.

Buy it and keep it in your safe for him. If he was a close friend I would do that.

I have a lot of regrets about selling guns I had a younger person. Especially the one my uncle rebuilt the stock on. Keep them. As everyone else said you will never get them back.
