couple of comments on this thread:

2. how can this be confirmed as DDR? i dont see any proofies. is it just how the stock is cut for the sling in the center like k98s that make it E. German?

SVT-40, is that a VN bring back you are showing here? That looks really cool! On my WANT list would be one of those along with a N. Korean and E. German. Do you have any of those to show us?

Don't know.... But the darker stains are just old grease which soaked into the stock and turned black due to age. Pretty typical for rifles used in wet conditions. She's old and tired thats for sure.

The sling, bayonet and stock took some type of shrapnel hit.

Yup a VN bring back... I've seen a few East German's in person, but never owned one. Never seen a NK in person. I also have a Chinese VN bring back with the appropriate papers.

The Poles did make stocks, for their "parade" rifles, but no actual rifles.
