    Type 53 info needed

I have never looked at a type 53 in person. The ones I see pics of look all beat to hell in the stock. What is the general consensus on the bore and receiver though? Are they turning out to be good shooters? They seem to be a lot cheaper than 91/30s these days. Is the machining any worse or any better than the soviet versions?

    Thanks

If you're buying online, it's a gamble. YMMV. Chinese firearms can be rough in condition.

I recently purchased two online from Bud's Gun Shop and was lucky to receive decent ones. Other buyers weren't as fortunate. My stocks are beat up from excessive wear and tear, but solid. The metal parts are rust-free. 80% of bluing still present. Both of my receivers match their butt plates. Bolts and magazines are mismatched. The bolts are machined well and cycle smoothly. The bores are dark, but the rifling is strong and sharp for both. Only one has a cleaning rod. No sling, tool kit, oil can nor ammo pouches. For $123 each, I am pleased with my T53s. Some customers weren't as lucky. Read their reviews.

Get a Type53 from Southern Ohio Gun and pay for the handpicked option. Ask for one with a good bore. Total cost should be about 135 shipped.

The ones I received are all quite good and have excellent bores and decent (dinged but solid) wood.

I also purchased one from Buds. It is in extremely good shape considering what I was expecting. Bore is very good / excellent and stock has very few dings and marks. Took a few hours to get her range ready but shes a looker now!

              Generally:
Earlier imports had good looking stocks but bad bores.
The ones that where imported last year have rough stocks (but there are gems out there) but have really good condition bores and blueing.

But there are exceptions of course

They where made on soviet tooling and in my experience they have very good machining. IMO they can be better machined then war-time soviet rifles.

I bought a Type 53 from Century, good condition with cracked stock. It's missing the bottom half of the stock, but otherwise shoots fine. The butt plate matches the receiver, but not the bolt or any other parts.
