Question for the SKS crowd.

Hello,

I am in need of some SKS parts that were missing from my Russian SKS that I picked up couple of months ago.

It came without the original receiver cover (had the after-market one with the scope mount).
The original sights were replaced with the after market ghost rings.
It came with the blade-type bayonet, but it was unattached, and is missing the handle with the circle that goes over the barrel, and the spring.
Naturally, the cleaning rod was also gone.

I would love to get my hands on the original Russian receiver cover, but even the non-Russian would be preferable to the one I have on now.
I would also like to find the rest of the missing parts, but i am having trouble finding them.

The cleaning rods offered for sale at various sites all seem to have the same problem (when you read the reviews) - they are too long (by about 1/4") and if you cut them down to size, you loose threads. Anyone knows a place that sells the "right" length rods for Russian SKS?

I am trying to get it back to its original condition (or as close to it as possible), so any tip/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like Apex has almost everything I need. I guess i'll have to do with the Yugo cover for now...

bubba is great i sold a russian topcover for like $50 on ebay

and a normal 10 round mag never goes for less than 30

I bear no ill will to those who don't place much value in the historical significance of old(er) firearms, just disappointed when the original parts are discarded.
Is SKS with with pistol grip, scope, muzzle break and synthetic stock easier to handle and shoot? Does one really need a bayonet dangling under the barrel? For some, the answers are obvious. Me - i prefer to see my SKSs look as close to the way they were originally meant to be as possible. I have a beat-up Chinese, and a super-clean Tula i just picked up. Now, when I get this Russian orphan (no way to say if it is a Tula or an Izzy without the cover - or is there?) to the stock configuration, I'll have one happy SKS trio.

Most people with check all the serial numbers upon purchase to verify all parts match, just saying

Ordered some of the missing stuff from Apex. Did not want to order the Yugo rear sight leaf, as it has a different marking then early Chinese or Russian ones. Will have to look a bit more.
Here they are now. The orphan is in the middle, under a younger (but older looking) Chinese cousin that I was able to date to 1959 thanks to the info on yooperj.com (thanks again, 0321jarhead!)
