Help ID old 1911

Sorry if this doesn't fit into c&r (one of my questions) but y'all are just so good at identifying old guns.





A friend got this from their grandfather when he died. She wants to keep it since the date on it is the old mans year of birth. Questions:

My limited google-fu since I'm on the move says it was built under contract in Argentina etc, but the serial number and year doesn't match up on the 1911 forum thread I found on search. So, was it made in 1921 or just model of that year? What's it worth? Rarity factor?

Argentina 1911, made in Argentina, not rare or special but a nice shooter. Still a $600-$700 gun any day of the week, some people pay even more.

Your pistol is an Argentine Sistema 1911 made in 1947. 1927 is just the model year.

Thanks for the clarification. The finish is pretty rough but it shoots great. I just detail stripped it and cleaned it up and it feels even better now.

It looks like the original finish. If it has the original finish, original grips, no import marks, and the barrel and magazine are matching, it's pretty collectable. These are top quality Colt licensed guns made on Colt equipment in a factory that Colt set up for the Argentine government

It is original finish, matching numbers several original mags. Original grips are likely history, it's got some old Crimson Traces on it now but that's the extent of mods to it
