Recently I was offered a K98 for 350 dollars but was able to talk the seller down to 300. It is a 1943 year rifle with an AR marked receiver which works out to being manufactured by "Mauser, Borsigwalde- "ar" 43" is completely numbers matching, has original Nazi swastika markings, the barrel, rifling, and crown look like it has never been fired. BUT the previous owner refinished it...
I know that immediately takes away from its value but it was excellently done. The stock has been cleaned and re-varnished and the entire rifle was parkerized. It is not a Mitchell's Mauser abomination and it also lacks import marks. It is a beautiful rifle and according to the PO's wife (PO died friend of the family is helping wife sell the collection) the PO was planning on taking one of his really nice K98s and making it into a shooter and that's how this rifle ended up like this. Also he offered me both the K98 and a Yugo M48 for 600 flat, with around 200-400 rounds of 8mm surplus depending on it being 30s 50s or 70s manufacture. I got the chance to handle the M48 as well and it is in unmolested numbers matching state and is in 100% condition. Looks like it was made yesterday. Crown, bore, action, and rifling look spectacular.
So would 600 for both rifles be a ripoff or should I just buy them before they disappear and get to getting the cosmo out of the m48 and enjoying them both?
