Bore butter ?

Bore butter is for the patches and preservation, lubing the patches and greasing the bore for storage.

Moose milk is what you use to neutralize and clean the bore. Moose milk would be akin to Windex or hot soapy water, not bore butter.

I have a question for you windex guys...and sorry for the threadjack.

How do you do it? Do you spray 20 sprays down the barrel? Do you take the sprayer off and pour it down? How much do you pour? Do you plug one side and fill up the barrel and shake?

If I was a 5 year old, what would the specific directions be?

Wet a cleaning patch with simple green and push that through the bore.

Why?

Simple green has water. Windex has water. Or, just use plain water.

water is the key, nothing special about windex. i usually just wait 'til i get home and clean with warm water and dish soap, then hoppes. even with that 1/2 hour time span, the corrosive salts have not turned my bore into a sewer pipe. imagine that! these are russian rifles, not AR's ok? during wartime they probably got cleaned occasionally with a leaf and some piss so i imagine a short wait before cleaning will not allow them to rot away into nothing. i'm just weird though i guess. i'd rather not haul way more crap out to the range than i need. usually have too many guns anyhow. to each his own....

The first time I shot my Mosin, I hauled butt home, expecting to find a rusted hulk of gun parts in the bag. Much to my surprise, it was still in one piece. A simple cleaning and back in the safe. A year later, still no rust. Weird....

So I guess the general consensus is no then . I was thinking it might help . I went to the range on Friday and shot about 30 rounds of surplus and I did spray it down with windex and when I got home the bolt face was already sprouting red flowers

When I shoot corrosive ammo in my bolt guns I take a large thermos of boiling hot water with me. When I'm done shooting I hose the action and bbl down with the hot water. Then clean when I get home, never any rust issues.
Boiling hot water was what the Brits used, they'd keep large containers of boiling water at the range and they had funnels with flexible spouts to fit into the chamber to flush the bores.
