Need help pricing an 1873 Colt

I've got a friend who wants to sell his 1873 Colt. It is a four digit (non-Custer), US Marked and Ainsworth inspected Colt. That is the neat part However, it has been reblued, rebarreled (with new ejector rod and housing), the hammer has been polished and the grips are 1950s Stag.

It has military guts, but it is pretty far from those roots with all the work that has been done. It also is a blackpowder only gun. Is $1000 a fair price? I can't shoot it, and it isn't military, but it has history. It seems to have the worst of all possible worlds in that it isn't shootable and it is messed with to the point as a shooter. What do you think?

Scobun, why can't you shoot it? $1000 for a shooter is fair. Let's see some pics!

I'm leery to shoot these blackpowder guns. The cylinder walls are a tad thinner and the heat treat isn't as good.

I'll post pics once I own it. I just want to make sure that I'm giving a fair price for it. He doesn't want to expect top dollar, and I don't want to pull his pants down around his ankles. Hopefully you'll all agree $1000 is a good deal and it will be mine soon.

TrailBoss and cast .45acp 200 grain.
I've got a 50's Great Western 1st Gen Colt clone that someone, at sometime, put a Colt 1st Gen BP .45 cyl into. Previous owner was shooting off the shelf .45 Colt through it. And there was no recoil shield bushing in it either!
Got it all apart right now polishing up for a re-blue, and a fitting a new smokeless cyl from Numrich.
