    Type 53 Questions

So I just acquired this rifle from an online retailer and my question pertains to the visible threads where the barrel attaches to the receiver.

I have two other Mosin rifles (although none are carbine length) and such threads aren't visible.

The rifle is also mismatched, and appears to have a very rough action and trouble closing the bolt on rounds.

Did I purchase $110 firewood with this rifle?

You can get a field gauge and see how the bolt operates. Don't mess with live rounds in the chamber unless you're at the range if you're unsure of the condition. Have you cleaned it up? It looks pretty dirty.

I've tried but it's almost impossible for me to get that gunk out of those threads there with the tools I have.

The round doesn't touch that part of the barrel. I mean the bolt and breach area

I'm gonna try cleaning it more, but the threads I was wondering about too.

It makes me think the barrel is half screwed on or something.
