How long does it take to get a COE?

Waiting for my 03 app to be processed and wondering if I should start the COE app now. Also are there other advantages to having the COE than being exempt from the 1 in 30 handgun rule? I remember someone saying that after '14 long gun registration having the COE will be benfecial for something.

There is a phone number you can call for the status... I posted about it a few years back. I do remember it taking almost 3 months to get mine.
