    Modern Handguns purchased w/ FFL03 Question

    I dont know if this has been discussed before or not I couldnt find anything about it here and I couldnt find anything on CaDOJ's site, but do you have to enter the multiple Modern Handguns you purchase with your FFL03 and COE into your bound book or is it just the C&R weapons that go into the bound book? Sorry if this is a stupid question or anything, just trying to figure it out so I am informed when I apply for my FFL03.

    First up,

    You can't legaly buy a handgun that is not designated as a Currio with an 03 C&R FFL. Any modern handgun purchased must go through a dealer for DROS and as such, does not need to be logged. You only need to log the C&R purchases that you used your C&R FFL on.

    example: If you buy a Colt 1911A1 45 auto that was made in 1941, that is an acceptable C&R purchase and it would have to be logged in your book. {and registered with the CA DOJ form}

    If you purchase a springfield or kimber 1911 Government model made 1958 or later.... then it would have to be registered through a dealer and go through the DROS process.

      And to complete the thought above - Modern handguns that are either too young or not on the C&R list do not go in your 03 AD book.

        Small point of clarification. You actually need to log all C&R transactions that occur while you have a C&R FFL, not merely if you actually used the C&R to make the purchase.

        Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

          I understand that modern handguns have to go through a dealer I was asking for the 1 every 30 exemption. All I wanted to make sure is that I didnt have to log them in the bound book. Which is answered thank you.

            Not sure I understand the question. Are you a FFl dealer? A C&R license? Multipule Hand Gun sales are required by the BATFE when more then one (1) handgun is purchased (taken delivery of) by a retail customer within a 5 day period. They are entered into your A&D book like all firearms are but there is a Federal Form # ATF F (E if online) 3310.4 (Nov. 2003). This is required in ALL states for all handguns that the same purchaser receives within a 5 day period from the same FFL dealer.

            Link to online form: http://www.atf.treas.gov/forms/pdfs/f33104.pdf

                What the OP is trying do is bypass the 1 handgun in 30 days limitation from an 01 by using the C&R+COE exemption that CA has. What he wanted to know is that since he "used" his C&R as part of the transaction, does he need to log the handguns into his bound book.

                the answer is No. Federally, his C&R was not used, just as part of a "modern" transaction in CA.

                  Thank you for all the help. My question has been answered. That was all that I was unclear about with the C&R and the bound book stuff. And Like I have always heard about different forums we're here to learn the right way of things.

                    Just to help you make the decision to get them (C&R coe), you can buy C&R handguns out of state face to face and carry them home with NO DROS needed. Pretty cool if you go to the NV or AZ gunshows or travel out of state much...

                      The COE is not needed to buy C&R handguns out of state face to face, only the C&R is needed. Just be sure to file the C&R handgun registration form when you bring them back.

                        Yep above is correct, the coe will keep you from having to make the second trip back to the 01ffl dealer if you buy a C&R pistol from a different town than where you live.
