Does anyone know from past events whether the CMP delisting of Springfield service grade garands means they're gone for good? Or is it just a short hiccup in supply while they try to deal with all the orders?

Cool. I finally decided I need a Garand and want one from a different manufacturer than my old man's. Also I like the possibility of getting a WWII rifle.NRA-ILA Lawmaker Contact Tool

Its only temporary until they get caught up.
Its happened in years past, and if history repeats itself I would expect a price increase.
I do have a feeling that unless they get more rifles turned into them that the end is probably near and wont last as long as thought before all this panic buying startedComment

delisted? Where are you getting that from?
They're still listed right there, it's just that the current batch ran out. Then of course there is the matter of what they have currently for sale at the north and south stores, which doesn't always match what they have available via mailorder. Plus, they haven't gone through everything yet sitting in their indiana jones style warehouse. When they catch up with getting springfields ready for sale, they'll sell more of them again.
Of course you can just get an HRA anyway. So there really isn't much need to worry, yet.Comment

I went to the CMP South Store on 2/7 to handpick a Kimber M82G and the racks that are normally filled with Garands were about 1/4 filled. It was a pathetic sight from when I was there about a year ago.
When I mentioned it to Leon he said they received 10,000 rifle orders and those orders have priority over walk in customers. Also when I was checking out during small talk with one of the ladies that handle the paperwork she told me they have at least 3-4 years of rifles but if sales continue like they have been that we may not even make it to 2 years.
With that said if you had intentions of buying anything from the CMP do not take to long to place your order.Last edited by Mac Attack; 02-17-2013, 7:28 AM.Comment

On the chance of a WWII/Korea production, and, well. . . why have a Ford made by Chevy?
Springfield's a popular. (and identical to HRA's save heel-stamp)
Have your paperwork ready. Come Spring/Summer, Springfields will more than likely be available again.
I will wager though, the next time that they are gone? CMP SA SG's will be gone for good.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY SERVICE GRADE SPECIAL, RM1SASSP SOLD OUT. We have posted this item as "sold out and not accepting orders" on the CMP web page. We do still have inventory of this item but feel we have enough orders already received and in the pipeline to us to completely sell out the remaining quantity. We request that customers who have submitted an order for this item to not contact us to see if they "made the cut". We expect to fill all orders, but will contact the customer if we cannot. Thank you for your support.

Nope.
Spring/Summer when they get several Thousand SA SG rifles ahead.
Closing out the "Specials" may also mean, seeing that SG stocks will now also be walnut, that there will be more "Jewels" in the grab-bag which is the CMP mail-order lottery program.
I got Two Service Grade Springfields a few years back that were "collector grade" in birch stocks. They may be going back to that practice to expedite and streamline the grading process.

Service Grade Springfields will be back, at least once more.
