Peruvian Mauser questions

I bought a Peruvian Mauser a couple of months ago, but I'm not sure which ammo i'm supposed to use...not sure what I should check before shooting it either...lol. Were they all 7.65 argentine?

The 1891 and 1909 productions were in 7.65 Argentine. Some of them may have been converted to 30-06 or .308

If you are uncertain on whether the barrel has been changed look for the import marks. If not then take it to a smith or mauser expert.

It was originally chambered in 7.65x53 Mauser. The Peruvians are bit of an odd duck. They still have the smaller barrel shank (i.e. "small ring") of the older Mausers, instead of the larger ones found on most model 1898s. And they have the more expensive Lange or "roller coaster" rear sights instead of the cheaper and simpler tangent rear sights. If your barrel is original, and there is not a stamp saying something along the lines of "7.62 NATO" or something else like that, I would guess that it is still in 7.65. If you are unsure, take it in to get it looked at. Nice rifle, btw.

Thanks...everything matches except the bolt. When I took it apart, I didn't see any stamps specifying the caliber. I'd rather not shoot it than blow it up lol. anyone know any Mauser experts around the Bay Area?

By any chance your bolt wouldn't be numbered 5662 would it?

One in a million chance I'm looking for that bolt to match to my rifle.

It is the same as a 1903 Turk, just without the counter bored receiver face.

I bought mine in the 80's .... Paid $225 which was at the time a bunch. But I'm glad I did.

Yes I shot it, and it was typically Mauser accurate.

I would just clean it , oil it then go out and have fun shooting it....
