Was that specific rifle made more than 50 years ago? If so, it would be A C&R, and would not require a DROS. A quick check on the net showed that they were made between 1955 and 1964. So you would need to verify by serial number as to year of production.

As long as it's a non AW long gun at least 50 years old and the buyer is legally able to purchase a firearm, your good to go. The buyer gives the seller the money & then the seller gives the buyer the gun. It's really that simple. Some people write up a bill of sale and a release for the buyer to sign stating that it is legal for them to purchase a firearm, but it is not required.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. I would also check ID to make sure they are 18 years or older and a CA resident not required but just to be safe and make sure no laws are being broken

              ^^ Right

Remington dates by bbl codes, not serial numbers.
