How is the spring under the trigger grouping put into the stock. I bought a Chinese SKS and can't seem to get that spring out and don't want to risk damaging anything. I also have another stock on hand that's a little less beat up I may want to try but it doesn't have that little spring. What should I do to install that other stock. Can i get that spring online?

the spring is screwed in, unfortunately trying to unscrew it expands the spring and makes it impossible to take out. id just get a similar spring at ace hardware or something.NRA Life Member

Don't cut it. It's tight for a reason. If you cut it you risk having the trigger group falling out when you shoot it.Poke'm with a stick!

haha. Anyways like I said, I have another stock thats less beat up and carved up (all kinds of carvings from its previous chinese users...) The one I have is actually really clean and its only engraving is a good looking soviet star with 1951 next to it. The only problem is when I put it on the wood on that tube over the barrel wont match, lol.

I tried a different spring with poor results, it didn't have enough tension and actually causes the receiver to be able to move up and down (which id assume would destroy any chance of decent accuracy.) I used pliers on the original stock spring and twisted it back and forth and worked it out without breaking the old stock. The new stock is great and in much better condition. I blued most of the metal parts as well. The most fortunate thing that happened is I remembered to get to the firing pin and clean the remaining cosmoline off of it and oil it! That could of been bad, it was rather sticky...Last edited by SanDiegoMan; 02-13-2013, 1:44 PM.Comment
