We've been discussing this over here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=667911

They turn off sales periodically to catch up. It's PROBABLY just that and no big deal.

I know, but that doesn't elicit the same "Road-runner" dust-cloud.

They are also sold out of SA Field grades.

I'm not so sure its just a "catch up" move. Orest stated a while ago that they would be offering M1 rifle parts sales again in the not too distant future. Years ago he stated selling parts was a mistake and they wouldn't be doing that again until they were out of rifles to sell.

You also have to consider before the panic buying started, they figured a 3ish year supply of rifles remaining. Look at the rest of the industry and the high sales rates the last couple of months. Gun shop racks and shelves are way low on inventory. The CMP isn't immune to the huge increase in demand. Anyone who was sitting on the fence about purchasing one, two, or twelve rifles has jumped off to get while the getting is still good.

Hope I'm wrong and time will certainly tell, but there may be more to it than just needing time to catch up. ln the mean time, better order up some HRAs.

It will be a sad day when the CMP no longer has rifles for sale

If your order was postmarked before the announcment you will get your rifle

Someone posted that on the other thread, and he's exactly right. I have been buying rifles from CMP since 2005 and we have seen this before.

There are plenty of Garands sitting in South Korea. . . if the State Dept. would only let them back into the U.S.

Those rifles you are referring to in South Korea are not MAP rifles. If it was the state department can't stop them from coming back just like the last ones from Greece.

There was a rumor about some returns from Turkey, IH M1s. I'd love to have one if they become available.

'Tis a sad day for C&R collectors. Sure, plenty of SAs on the market but at stupid prices.

There are a lot of people who are realizing the Garand may be the ONLY semi auto rifle they can legally own soon. There is not an infinite supply of quality WWII guns anymore. I stupidly sold mine to a friend. But got a James River Armory restored instead.

Well I picked up mine at their two locations in 2011

1-H&R, correct grade, 1-Springfield, correct grade 1-Springfield, service grade special and 1-1903 Springfield, Mark I.

                            I'm set.

They still have rifles in "The Warehouse" that have not been uncrated and prepared for sale. They don't know what's there or the condition. So, they probably just ran out of rifles that were "shelf-ready."

On the other hand: anyone want to buy my H&R Service Grade Special for $2000?
