I have a really hard time trusting a sight mounted on the cocking piece. Outside of increased sight radius, why wouldn't you make a receiver mounted sight?

      Hello,

Most people do have trouble with this, and it's something I understand.

There are a couple reasons for making it this way. First, it's easy to change it back to normal. Second, the closer to the eye, the more effective a peep sight is.

If someone wants me to make this for him, it would be a lot easier for him to unscrew the cocking piece and install mine than it would be to drill and tap the receiver.

I have this returning to zero the same way each time. I sent out a few units for feedback and they are all positive. The one negative (impact is a little low) has been fixed and had nothing to do with the movement of the cocking piece.

Interestingly, I was written by a couple older gunsmiths who used to do this mod back about 40, 50 years ago. I knew nothing about this, but it turns out they did something similar (Pacific sold a peep sight mounted in a similar fashion) and the Mosin had no trouble with it back then, even without the mods I've done to the cocking piece to keep it returning to zero.

      Regards,

      Josh

I'd seen on a few forums where people had drilled and tapped the cocking piece for a sling swivel screw. At the time it seemed ridiculous. I'm looking for a peep sight for a mosin project I'm working on. I guess at $45 a pop it's hard to say no. What are your shipping times looking like?

For the rear sight, we're currently looking at 1-2 weeks.

I've made some improvements in the spring system holding the ball bearing -- it's now a dual-spring setup -- and that takes some machining.

Just ordered some more cocking pieces and look for them to arrive early to mid-next-week. My supplier is still recovering from the panic buy last month.

Might send you the prototype version with the interchangeable peeps, if I have it looking acceptable by then... should be!

          Regards,

And sorry for the pics above not showing up. Photobucket is having problems with their Pro accounts, which I have. The pics should be back up shortly, according to them.

The moison team is still looking for a Combat Mauser rifle team and not a swedish target rifle team.
