I'm looking at the cmp website and they list two different cleaning rods for the m1. Does anyone have any experience with them? What's the difference?

M1 cleaning rods

One's in a box, One's in a tube.
I get the cheaper tube ones. It's just an emergency rod anyway.

I would not use a sectional cleaning rod to clean any rifle unless it is an emergency and I have no choice as it can do more harm than good. There are lots of modern one piece coated rods in the market like Dewey.
If you want an emergency tool then look for the USGI combo too.Comment

The Garand needs to be cleaned from the muzzle end since you can not remove the bolt and clean from the chamber end. The reason to be careful with cleaning is that wear on the muzzle end affects accuracy. An investment in a one piece rod and a muzzle rod guide are well worth it.Comment

I boresnake mine. I don't even mess with the muzzle.Comment

I keep one in the rifle in case I rip the rim off a stuck case in the field.
I use an Outers segmented brass rod for cleaning.
Drill a wet patch in a patch-eye onto the rod at the chamber and then pull it through.
Then drill the bore-brush onto the rod at the chamber and then pull it through a few times.
This gets most of the heavy crud out the muzzle.
Then alternate bore-brush and wet patches from the muzzle with a jag.
Then finish up with alternating wet/dry jagged patches until clean.
Don't worry about muzzle wear, just keep your rod clean.
