    CMP Procedure Question

I'm about to send in my CMP Universal Order Form with all required exhibits, notary, etc. However I can't logically send in Sec. 3A thereof because that's where you name the specific item(s) you're purchasing.

First question: can I bid in the online auction before they receive my Universal Order Form, parts 1A and 2A?

Second question: assuming I eventually win an auction and thus purchase something, do I then send in 3A, which is the specific item purchase form?

I have a C&R license, by the way, a copy of which will be attached to my paperwork I'm sending the CMP.

I've emailed similar questions to CMP, but I don't know how long they might take to answer, so I thought I'd probably get a faster answer here. I've diligently searched the CMP website and can't really find straight answers to the above questions. I might have missed them, though.

If you are not ordering anything, leave it blank. Make it fun, send in an order for some ammo or something! Regarding the auction, I believe you have to have all your paperwork in line with them. I've used the auction before, but my paperwork was on file already....I won a few auctions, I just waited till they invoiced me and called them up. No need for the form.

Thanks very much. Just so I'm clear, are you saying to send in the 3A order form with nothing on it, or should I just fill in the purchaser info and put nothing where actual items are to be listed (assuming I don't want to order anything at this time)?

And, just to be clear about your other point on the auctions, when you say no need for the form, you mean the 3A purchase form itself, right?

Congrats on winning a few! I'm a newbie with CMP but looking forward to a toe in the water.

I'd probably just write something on the order page saying that I just want to get set up with a customer # for auctions and if that confuses them they'll call you. Once you have a customer # it's great - you can order a lot of stuff on their eStore (ammo especially).

Eljay is right....at least a sticky note saying you just want to set up an account....it would help them out, they are very busy these days.....
I guess you could send in the order form, but that will will add more time to the order process... You can call for them to rake your credit card over the coals.

Ok, now I know what to do. It's going in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for the quick advice.

Does anyone know of a CMP affiliate club in the antelope valley?

If you can't find something you want to join, you can join one of the collector clubs. I'm a member of the Garand Collectors Association just to get the excellent journal even though I'm a member of two other clubs that qualify. There's also a cheaper no frills equivalent for the carbines (I'm sure somebody will be here with the exact name shortly).

The CMP website itself supposedly shows a search function to find a club in your area. I haven't tested it myself. I do belong to a gun club and I just sent along a copy of my membership card with my CMP application. I didn't bother to see if it is on their list but hopefully it is.

You can join the Garand Collectors or Glock Shooting Sports Foundation (GSSF).

Or Ca Rifle and Pistol Association. Whatever you join, try and sign up for a 3 year membership, that way it will be good for the same amount of time as your notarization with CMP. Can't tell you how many times I have seen people post on the CMP Forum that they went to order something and their 1 year club membership had expired. By the time they renewed it, the item they wanted was no longer available.

                            Ain't that the truth.

(Wish they'd start an "Ammo-can-of-the-Month" club and just send me the stuff. )

Re-upped at GCA online and then called the CMP/CS - they resolved the stoppage in about Five minutes.

                            Thank You CMP.
