    Ishapore Enfield extractor spring help

    Well,
If you couldn't have guessed from the title, she's toast. Thankfully Numrich's has them, unfortunately they have an almost intolerable wait time. Anyone have advice for a more field expedient fix? Or heck, local in San Diego with a couple extras?
Some have said they used a spring from a pen, but for the life of me, I can not get that thing to either stay leveled enough, or not go in compressed to much to function.
I will be ordering a few to keep around, just would like to see if I an get something working in the meantime.
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Harware store spring

Assume it is a coil spring. Go to best local hardware store and select a spring that has the wire size you want. Get two or three. You will re-form the spring.
Chuck a drill bit smooth end up in a vice and clamp the spring with needle nose Vise Grips to bit.
Use whatever pliers are needed to grab loose wire and wind it around the bit.
Wind a closed end and cut with side cutters. Grind off burr.
If at first you don't succeed, call it practice.

I used a pencil eraser for a while. I think any coil spring that fits will work or can be made to work.

Your rifle needs a pretty stiff spring for the extractor to work. The original is not a coil but a curved flat spring. Just wait and get the correct one plus an extra or two.

Thanks for the responses guys. Ended up going with the Wolff ones, see when they get here. A pencil eraser, eh? That's a new level of creativity there!
