Get your C&R SKS mags now!

For those of you who bought Century Type 56 SKSs recently, this is a heads-up that now is the time to buy external magazines, because Bubba might soon be illegal:

    SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act’.

SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON TRANSFER OR POSSESSION OF LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES.

    (a) Definition- Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after paragraph (29) the following:

‘(30) The term ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’

‘(A) means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition

‘(B) does not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.’.

‘(8) Whoever knowingly violates section 922(v) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.’.
    [/B]

‘(v)(1)(A)(i) Except as provided in clause (ii), it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

‘(ii) Clause (i) shall not apply to the possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device otherwise lawfully possessed within the United States on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection.
    ...
That is, if you have an external magazine larger than 10 rounds now, or any time before the law passes, you're cool. If you wait then either forget about it or risk prison.

One place that still has the 20-round Tapco mags (and at a good price) is Sportmans's Guide. Basically this is the same idea as the Mosin mag concept - increase the capacity from 10 to 20 rounds, reload with stripper clips and replace the fixed magazine whenever you needed.

The black and OD Tapco SKS mags are on back-order, but they still have "dark earth" color in stock.

I don't pretend to know what the chances are of this bill becoming law. I just thought I would pass on the info and the links.

You need to get "Flat Dark". (Paint it the color you like, use camo tape, etc.)

Black and OD green are on back-order.

        Question,
Isn't anything greater than ten rounds illegal in Cailifornia. When you go to order, there is a note at the bottom that they won't ship to CA. That was my understanding, I could be wrong.

My apologies, I completely forgot! (I'm in NC now - we voted for Romney this time around.)

Would the 10 round clips be illegal in CA. I see that those can be ordered online as well.

You can't have the a mag on the SKS larger than 10 rounds. Also, NO DETACHABLE magazines on the SKS. This is a big no no. The SKS is currently named on the AW list (please reference flow chart) as "SKS w/detachable magazine"

If you wanted to own any of this stuff, you had to have had it prior to the ban and/or registered your SKS w/detachable mags as an AW years ago.

Enjoy the 10 rounders you have.

Ok, I've just read the sticky on this: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=387409

Apologies again for not knowing this ahead of time, but I think it is still important for people to know that US law might catch up to California law. Some may want to do what do what Bangzoom did and "gift" out-of-state friends or relatives to beat the new national ban in case you thought you might move some day.

Yep I wondered about that also. Sportsmans Gouge refused to exchange a defective rifle scope I returned to them. Said rifle scopes are "RESTRICTED" in Calif. and they wouldn't send a replacement. I no longer have a relationship with them after 15 years.

i cant think of a legitimate reason to own one

since an sks cant have a magazine that is detachable

As Lifeon2whls pointed out, if you wanted any of this, you needed to get it before the ban. Well 2013 is shaping up to be for the US, what 2000 was for California. And a national ban is a bigger deal than a state ban. Just saying.
