USGI Ammo belt question

I have one of the OD green 10 pocket ammo belts. All the metal eyelets and snaps have developed the green residue from storage. Any recommended ways to clean that stuff off and prevent it from coming back??

What you're seeing is called verdigris. It's an oxidation of the metal.

A Q-tip and WD-40 or vinegar seems to do the trick quite well removing verdigris.

What year is it? Can you post some pics?

I'll see if I can get a couple photos. It has the "US" on the front, with the military info inside, which maybe more readable in a photo, but on the opposite inside there are some symbols with a line under them, Korean - Israli or a reproduction??? I use it when I take a Garand to the range so I know when to stop shooting the Garand, when I run outta ammo.
