Are you referring to the Indian Ishapore .308 rifles? If so yes it's still a C&R

The Ishapore 2A/2A1 rifles are not rechambers, they are C&R if over 50 years old, but they come stock with a 10 or a 12 round magazine, most of the ones I have seen had the 12 rounders in them.

I would have to consult my C&R regs to be sure but I think they loose C&R status if rechambered. Sure sounds stupid to me though.

Is a SMLE made for 303 Brit strong enough for 308? I thought Ishapore beefed them up a bit and used better steel for the ones they built in 7.62 NATO.

              All Ishapore #2s and 2As are C & R eligible regardless of age. They're specifically listed in the C & R book.

The "original configuration" issue is, seems to me, an always evolving area in the C & R field. ATF asserts original configuration goes to collectibility and that's what we're supposedly all doing. But, a reblued 1957 made Colt Python would probably be "original configuration" yet its collectibility would surely be nearly wiped out.

It doesn't seem to me that a rechamber would change original configuration, with the possible exception of the original caliber being the reason for the C & R designation - and I can't think of an example of that instance.

Original configuration can be changed on a gun classified as an Antique

Correct, the only issue would be the 12 rd mag in Kommifornica. Brownells used to sell a 10 rd replacement mag.
