    Yugo m24/47 cleaning question

So, I'm going to take out my newly acquired Yugo M24/47 for some shooting next week. I plan to head to Turners Fountain Valley(or if you guys know a better place around orange county) on saturday to pick up some cleaning supplies.

I need to pick up a cleaning rod but I'm not sure what kind to get. Are all rifle cleaning rods of the same size, but different lengths? Any particular brand or make you guys prefer for cleaning your C&R rifles?

I just got a cleaning kit that has everything I need for all my firearms, except the cleaning fluids. For the M24/47, you'll need an 8mm patch jag and bore brush. For cleaning fluids, there are many available - Hoppes #9 (for powder), Sweets 7.62 (for copper) are probably the most commonly used. If you have a fouled bore, try JB Bore paste.

Good luck with the M24/47. I picked one up about a month ago, and it was really gunked up with cosmo. After getting it cleaned, the bore looks almost unused. However the stock is mismatched and some of the bluing is missing, so I'm turning it into my first C&R refinishing project.

for cleaning rods you will want a ONE peice dewey or tipton rod. midway and brownells sell them online. get a LONG one

the 4 piece rods that you can find at walmart are OK for once or twice but they do nick and thrash the bore.

also find on google how to take down a mauser bolt without losing a finger. I really mean this.

take down the bolt, degrease it and oil it up.
clean the barrel with HOPPE's solvent and a nylon bore brush.
then oil it with CLP, or FP10 or EEZOX, whatever they got.

cleaning mausers is real easy even with corrosive ammo. which is a whole other story.

I have quite a few yugos and love em all! have fun.
