I wouldn't go so far as to call that "Bubba'd". It's actually pretty nice man.

Thats one nice looking rifle. I saw one just like it being picked up at a LGS in Ripon the other day.

Nice rework of a rifle that cost $21 shipped to your door in 1962 -
I don't know if it is a G&H but the stock is good, lyman 57 peep, and a milled trigger guard --
I do rather doubt G&H would drill the receiver for a weaver N-2 -mount.

So many 1903's were sporterized back in the day, they were the Mosin of our grandparents' era. This is to be expected.

Bubba'd or not, that looks like a really nice huntin' rifle to me. I'd say you scored well on this one. Congrats!

I do like the front sight a lot. The stock is also excellent.

G&H made some very expensive rifles based on Springfields. Do some research. You may have won the lotto

I've sent these picts and an inquiry to G&H's historian Bob Beach and haven't heard back yet. An auction site had one very similar, different Lyman site, better blue, but it sold and the pict's deleted, $3500. Another said that G&H had a fire and alot of records were lost. I'm pretty sure it's one of thiers. There are many of the characteristics of one, jeweled bolt, checkered bolt knob, G&H metal pistol cap, G&H trap door butt plate, same Lyman 48, same hooded ramp, fine 40 line checkered French (I think) walnut stock (the cheek piece is classic G&H style), and the triggers been done over. This rifle doesn't appear to have seen the field as there isn't a scratch on it, but the metal work is bad. I'm going to treat it as a collector item and try to prevent any further degadation rather than reblue. It's a shooter and I bet a tack driver. I'll never sell it because I could never own one other wise. Like a '69 AMX barn find. PAX

Mr. Beach got back to me and was kind enough to give me side by side comparision pictures, noting the differences at cheek shadow, and scroll work. I still scored hard as far as I'm concerned.
