    Case colored marlin

    Tues I am picking up a early 1920,s marlin 39m 22 levergun. .What causes old rifles to loose there case coloring ? This one has 100% of the finsh intact and dont want to damage the case colered resever.Rubing down with oil shouldnt hurt?

      Handling, exposure to sunlight (I've been told), and rust.
      What I hear from the collectors, de-grease with non chlorinated brake cleaner, and immediately soak all the metal with a silicon based gun oil like CLP.
      Marlin used a different color case formula than Winchester and Colt, and JMHO, the Marlin color case was the best looking of the three.

            Gun store was closed till today. Rifle to nice for what I want to use it for. like new 90 years old any one interested in taking it off my hands?
