    Sks gas tube possible problem

The gas piston on my Norinco sks only moves back 1-9/16 of an inch it doesn't go back far enough for the piston to pass over the holes in the gas tube.
There is nothing I can see blocking the tube.
Is this normal or is there a problem with my gas tube or piston?

Is this when you are manually operating the bolt? Does it cycle when you fire it?

If I put the piston side in first and not the rod it still does the same thing the piston won't go past the holes.

if in bay area bring it over and we can straighten it out, it will bend over time so getting a spare would be a good thing

Is there any dings in the gastube? Are there any burrs on the edge of the piston.Look down the tube like you wiuld a barrel in the light and see if there is any crud in it.

No everything is really clean but I read somewhere that the holes in the gas tube are for the gas behind the piston to escape and not be compressed and that the piston doesn't go past those holes.

~ M1 GARAND rifle - On Nails - On Wall Behind the Home Bar

Have one of the early WW2 M1 GARAND rifles hanging on big nails behind the home bar with other brica brac. Wrapped the nails in electrical tape to hold the 10-pound rife. Can't even see the attachment devices that are well anchored into the wall studs.
