I checked serial numbers on both rifles and found them in three locations: one on the receiver behind the chamber, one on top of the chamber cover lid when the bolt is shut, and one looks like on the side when the bolt is puuled open and locked back. All the serial numbers say "HRA" but none of the numbers match.

Are there more serialized parts besides t hese three part s ? Also is it normal that none of the numbers match ? How do I find out how old these guns are and if they were in a war ?

      estore: 4/29/13 4 orders "opened"; 4/30/13 3 out of 4 orders "processing"

My order was broken up as follows:
      1) SA Rack and HRA Service
      2) Ammo - shipped 5/1
      3) Clips and bayonet - shipped 5/1
      4) Service SA (still "opened", not "processing" yet hopefully I get one)

Still waiting for change in status for 1) and 4)
Credit card was charged for 1) a day or 2 after the order was opened.

Yes it's normal, SG's are mixmasters.

Do you remember when in Feb your order was received by CMP? Trying to get a timeline on my order. Mine was received on 2/11.

I would imagine you are very close to getting yours just based on that.

Esp1, here is a link for the date range by serial number http://myplace.frontier.com/~aleccorapinski/id11.html. Look for the section titled "Assigned Serial Number Ranges" that will show you the years of manufacture of your Garands.

To your question about mismatched numbers, the Garands were designed to be built using parts that were mass produced and not custom fitted to the rifle like the European makers do. It's entirely possible to have some manufactured parts on your rifle dating back to WWII.

For your stock, here is site that lists the cartouches used so you can see if it matches the rest of your rifle http://www.trfindley.com/pgsnstmpsm1.html.

BTW congrats, those are nice looking Garands!

I guess I just slipped under the wire when I ordered. because I ordered and am supposed to receive a SA Service Grade.
Still waiting. BTW, it still says that it will be an SA.

Word of advice to all the new garand owners out there. Inspect your op spring carefully. Clean it thoroughly and check its flexibility. If in doubt replace it. Op spring are the number one reason for garand issues, and could damage your op rod. And yes you can use a broken spring and use the two haves but this was only for gi's in a combat situation when their lives depended on it. Your safe queen is on the line now so take care of her

The very first thing you should do with a Garand you purchase is do a complete tear down and clean then GREASE all the proper points

Op Rod spring should measure between 19 and 20 1/4 inches and be straight fee of bends or kinks
First thing I do with any Garand I buy is replace the Op Rod spring no matter if in spec or not

You dont unless you sent it signature required
Eventually you will get a e-mail from them saying order was received etc, etc. They are way behind so you may not get a notification for some time.
                            Just have to wait patiently

I just want to make sure it gets there safely. I don't expect to see the rifle for 4 months, as long as they received the form, then I can ease my mind and wait.
