Help with ID and value of Luger please

My son came across a deal on an old Luger. Was hoping someone could take a look and give any feedback possible as to ID, history of this model and any value it may have. Thanks,

      S/42 = Mauser Oberndorf

I'm no luger expert, but that one looks pretty nice.

From a collectors standpoint, the WWII Luger's are more on the rare side of things. That said, collecting Luger's is an art in itself. Research, reaseach, and more reserch. This one looks pretty good, so don't be surprised if this goes for more than you might think.

              Thanks for sharing.

That thing is beautiful. I just bought my first P38, I see the appeal of the Luger too. Nice gun. If you get it, let us know for how much.

Nice matching S42 - 1938 so pre-war, waffen marked bring back.
The mag is older (looks WW1) and non matching to pistol -
The S42 is about $1600-1800 - if it feels tight and the finish is as good as it looks in the pics - and is all matching, there may have been other parts exchanged, someone willing to pay $1800 will know what to check.
Sell quick at $1500 or price at $1800 and be prepared to wait until Xmas is over.
Just my opinion, I am no expert, but I do like to buy and sell these.

There are people who can make matching number parts for Lugers - pretty much so that you have to take apart the entire pistol to determine if it was renumbered and reblued.

Have someone you trust to check it out, otherwise beware of being burned.

Looks great. Possibly reblued though... I know sometimes when you reblue parts they come out purple like that extractor.

My son got this from an old lady (I met her when he picked this up) that said her (now) deceased husband brought this back from WWII with him. It's been in a box ever since, never fired. She had other WWII items that she may sell in the future. Re-blued, very much doubt it.

Son already has it. He may be looking to sell to help with a relocation move he is planning.

Isn't there a guy on here that is somewhat of a Luger expert? Anyone know his CG name so I could PM him for his opinion?
